Our story

A local business shaped by two complementary perspectives

Founded by Roy and Darlene Thomas in 2013, Darlene Kay is a family-owned Aurora company. Roy brings decades of construction and insurance experience; Darlene brings a fine-arts background, design experience, and a lifelong eye for color.

Together, they have helped beautify and protect hundreds of homes and businesses. Their work spans roofing, painting, and gutters, supported by practical guidance, careful workmanship, and direct communication.

General Manager/Owner

Roy is the Owner and General Manager of DK Roofing and Painting. He has spent 33 years helping clients with damaged property while serving in the construction and insurance industries. He has also assisted in beautifying hundreds of homes and businesses. If your project is a result of adverse weather, water, fire, or smoke damage, Roy's claim-adjusting background helps him explain the construction side and keep project documentation organized. Coverage and settlement decisions remain between you and your insurer. Roy has a Bachelor's degree from CSUF and is married to his best friend, Darlene.

Lead Painter & Designer/Owner

Darlene is the Owner and Artistic Director of DK Roofing and Painting. When Roy started the business in 2013, Darlene hopped on board and was flattered to be the inspiration for the company's name. As a color consultant, much of her work happens behind the scenes, collaborating with clients to help them choose the perfect colors for their painting, roofing, or gutter project. Darlene's Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Metropolitan State University gives her the skills and trained eye to assist clients in choosing a new color or matching existing colors, and her skills creating art on the canvas with acrylic, oil, and watercolor are breathtaking.
